Summary
- The Baby Dragon is the 11th Troop unlocked in the standard Barracks. It is a fearsome flying unit and is capable of attacking both ground and air units with splash damage.
- When no allied aerial units are within 4.5 tiles from the Baby Dragon, its Tantrum ability becomes active. Baby Dragons far enough from other air units inflict double the damage and attack faster.
- Baby Dragons have no preferred target when attacking; they will simply attack the closest building. However, once they become aware of enemy Clan Castle troops, Heroes, or Skeleton Trap skeletons (either by being attacked themselves or by being near another friendly troop under attack), they will leave their previously targeted building and instead engage the enemy troops. Once all of the nearby enemy troops are defeated, the Baby Dragons will proceed to attack the nearest structure.
Strategy
Offensive
- The Baby Dragon could be considered more versatile than the Dragon. They have half the housing space as well as about half the health and damage values, but they inflict much more damage when enraged.
- An attack using Baby Dragons would be less vulnerable to Seeking Air Mines, since it will only destroy 10 housing space of troops, compared to the Dragon which occupies 20 housing space. However, since the quantity of troops have increased, a horde of Baby Dragons would be more vulnerable to splash damage, such as Wizard Towers and Air Bombs, since there are more individual units compared to the lower quantity but more durable Dragons. However, one could bring in Healing Spells to mitigate the splash damage or Rage Spells to help destroy the splash damaging defences faster.
- Baby Dragons are especially good at funneling and destroying outer buildings to guide troops into the center of the base. They have relatively high health and can deal a lot of damage in their tantrums.
- If you intend to funnel with Baby Dragons, you can consider bringing a Balloon to check and tank Seeking Air Mines which will kill the Baby Dragon prematurely. Also consider the location of Air Defenses; if they cover the edge, it can quickly kill the Baby Dragon.
- Baby Dragons are excellent farming troops since they deal strong damage and have decent health. They can destroy outside collectors fast with the "enraged" ability. However, Air Defenses can cut them down, so it is recommended to have some sort of initial phase to deal with one or two of them. For example, use Lightning Spells to zap out the Air Defenses or in higher TH levels, LightQuake (Lightning and Earthquake Spells).
- They can take on and defeat low-level defending Archer Queens by themselves which makes them a good choice to deal with the Queen if she is easily reachable. However, nearby defenses can turn the tide in the defending Archer Queen's favor. If possible, zap the Archer Queen with the AIr Defense. Keep in mind though, that Earthquake spells do no damage to troops.
- Baby Dragons are a common troop found in low-level Clan Castles, especially in Clan Wars. Placing a Dragon, Electro Dragon or your Barbarian King and a bunch of Wizards will quickly kill the Baby Dragon before it does significant damage to your troops.
- At lower Town Hall levels, the lack of air targeting defenses makes them a formidable threat. Therefore, it is a good idea to bring one in your Clan Castle and drop them directly on those defenses to make them untargetable from the rest of the base.
- From Town Hall 4 and above, an alternative is to use a ground army to destroy all air targeting defenses. After all of them have been destroyed, you can freely drop the Baby Dragon from the Clan Castle to clean up anything remaining.
Defensive
- Baby Dragons are quite powerful air troops, and as such it can be difficult to defend against them. Multiple high-level Air Defenses are critical for success against Baby Dragons.
- Baby Dragons are wonderful Clan Castle troops. As a flying unit, the Baby Dragon is completely immune to attacks from most ground troops, and his splash damage capability makes it especially suited for destroying groups of Barbarians and Goblins. To make use of his rage ability, a player can simply request just one Baby Dragon and fill the castle with ground troops.
- Note that Skeleton Traps set to air mode will also take away its rage ability, so place them away from its path.
- Seeking Air Mines can one-shot Baby Dragons of relative level. Place them near Air Defenses to make sure they do not get destroyed.
- Baby Dragons need to be alone in order for them to have their rage mechanic active. An Air Sweeper can clump them up and remove their advantage.
Upgrade Differences
- The Baby Dragon undergoes significant visual changes at levels 3, 4 and 6.
- Initially, it appears as a small lime green Dragon with the spikes and tips of its wings being orange. Its hands and feet are a dark orange that fades back into the body.
- At level 3, the Baby Dragon's wings turn yellow.
- At level 4, the Baby Dragon's wings turn into a pink-orange gradient and tongue turns pink.
- At level 5, the Baby Dragon gains golden bracelets on each wrist.
- At level 6, the Baby Dragon's wings turn blue and his tongue turns purple.
- At level 7, the Baby Dragon's bracelets gain icy blue ornaments.
- At level 8, the Baby Dragon's bracelets grow larger and turn completely gold, and its legs get a golden accent

Trivia
- You can have a maximum of 30 Baby Dragons at one time in a complete set of fully upgraded Army Camps. This number increases to 34 if you include the 4 that can fit into a level 8 or higher Clan Castle. On the battlefield, you can clone an additional 12 Baby Dragons with four level 5 or higher Clone Spells (three from the regular spell inventory and one from a max-level Clan Castle), for a total of 46 Baby Dragons.
- Like the Dragon, the Baby Dragon's shadow is oval, not dragon-shaped.
- The Baby Dragon's hands and feet are red in the info image, but aren't in battle.
- Baby Dragon's wings are undersized. Unlike the Dragon, it doesn't seem to have enough wingspan to support flight, yet this has no impact on gameplay.
- The Baby Dragon's upon-death skeleton is human shaped, similar to the other troops.
- The fireballs that the Baby Dragon shoots are similar to the ones fired by Lava Hounds/Lava Pups.
- When the Baby Dragon disappears upon death or at the end of a battle, it explodes into Dark Elixir, even though it is an Elixir troop.
- In Clash Quest, the Baby Dragon is revealed to have a father, the Papa Dragon.
Comparisons
- The Baby Dragon, along with the Miner and Ice Golem, is one of the three troops in the Home Village to be directly transferred from one of Supercell's other games, Clash Royale.
- The Baby Dragon was one of the only troop(s) in the game that didn't have upgrade differences.
- This trait was previously used with the Witch, before the Town Hall 11 Update. At one point, when you upgraded the Baby Dragon to level 3, its wings didn't change color at all. With the October 2016 update, Levels 3 & 4 were given pink wings (Level 4 shares the same pink wings of level 5 Baby Dragons.)
- The Baby Dragon is one of the 4 troops to have a spell-like effect when deployed, including the Raged Barbarian, Super Barbarian and Rocket Balloon.
- The Baby Dragon is one of the 13 units to appear in a Scenery, the others being the Barbarian, Goblin, Balloon, Hog Rider, Barbarian King, P.E.K.K.A, Skeleton, Archer Queen, Grand Warden, Dragon Rider, Cannon Cart, and the Party Wizard. In its case, it appears in the Hog Mountain Scenery.
- The Baby Dragon is one of the four troops associated with Dragons, the others are the Electro Dragon, Dragon Rider, and the Inferno Dragon.
- It is the only troop to appear in both the Home Village and the Builder Base.
